KinConfirm alternative: how Countersign compares

Updated October 14, 2026 · 6 min read

KinConfirm and Countersign solve the same problem in a similar way: when someone claims to be a relative and asks for money, you send a check to the relative’s own phone and they confirm it’s really them. They differ in platforms, in what a parent needs to do, and in what else is included. We make Countersign, so we’re not neutral. Facts about other products come from their public listings and press coverage on 14 October 2026, are linked below, and may have changed. If something here is wrong, email support@gocountersign.com and we’ll fix it.

Where KinConfirm may suit you better

  • You’re all on iPhone and you’d like a native iOS app.
  • You have a very large family group: its top plan covers 50 members.
  • A backup question matters to you, for relatives whose phones can’t use Face ID or a fingerprint.
  • You want one narrow tool that only does identity checks.

Where Countersign may suit you better

  • Mixed phones. It works on iPhone and Android, because it runs in the browser and installs to the Home Screen.
  • A parent who won’t install an app. They text “CHECK” and a name, and reply YES or NO to requests.
  • You want the habit, not just the tool. Practice calls and a family safe word teach people what to do before the real call comes.
  • You also want to check suspicious messages, with a free scam-text checker included.

Honest caveats

  • Countersign is a web app you add to your Home Screen. It is not in the App Store or Google Play yet.
  • On iPhone, push alerts need the Home Screen version; otherwise Countersign texts you first.
  • Both products depend on the real relative answering. If they don’t reply in time, neither can help; you fall back on calling back on a saved number.
  • Neither is a substitute for rules: never send money because of an incoming call, and always call back on a number you already have.

How to choose

If everyone has an iPhone and you want a simple, native check, try KinConfirm. If your family has Android phones, a parent who prefers texting, or you want to rehearse with your parents, try Countersign. You can also use both: nothing stops you checking with either.
